Come Saturday, runners from all 50 states and at least six countries will take part in the festival.

Organizer Lee Corrigan said participation has increased over  last year's festival, when the pandemic kept more people home.

"It looks like we're going to be up some place in the neighborhood of 10% to 15% with our participation level. So, that bodes well for the future. It's also exciting for us to see a return of the runners," Corrigan said.

The race starts at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, where runners will get to run between the ballpark and The Warehouse. It all finishes at the Inner Harbor, where the winners will be added to the signature trophy.

Blue is the color for this year's race shirt and the inside of signature crab metal, which features a different iconic location in Baltimore: The Bromo Seltzer Tower.

"We're excited about that, and we think the runners will be excited for that too," Corrigan said.

Corrigan said the event generates approximately $25 million a year for the city and raises hundreds of thousands for local charities.

"We probably generate over $500,000 every year for local charities. Those charities that participate in the event, they usually have a fundraiser. Of course, we give out money directly to charities," Corrigan said.

Road closures for the 2022 Baltimore Running Festival:

In preparation for the running festival, various parking restrictions, road closures and lane closures will be implemented along the race routes.

Motorists should be advised that traveling from inside the footprint of the race to destinations beyond the race borders (and vice versa) will be very difficult throughout the day. Traffic stops WILL be implemented for the safety of participants and motorists WILL encounter significant delays.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and allow additional travel time. Traffic will be impacted in many city communities, and in order to minimize delays, motorists should use alternate routes outside of the race footprint. This includes using roadways north of 33rd Street, south of McComas Street, west of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and east of Highland Avenue. Motorists traveling within the footprint of the race are also advised to travel before the race begins or after the event ends if possible to minimize delays.

On race day, motorists should pay close attention to posted parking restrictions, as vehicles parked in violation will be ticketed and towed. Motorists with questions concerning the location of their vehicles should call 311.

Residents and visitors are strongly encouraged to use public transportation during this event. The Metro Subway is a great option for traveling into and out of the city, as it will not be affected by the marathon. The Charm City Circulator will modify its service hours during this event, and will operate on race day from 4 p.m. until midnight.
